Affordable Date Night Outfit + Life Update

Affordable Date Night Outfit + I’m Back!

Oh my goodness, it feel so good to be back! While taking a much needed break has been so nice and relaxing, I missed blogging so much. If you follow me on Instagram you might know that I graduated with my Master’s degree in Communication just a couple weeks ago! I honestly never thought I would actually see the end, but it’s such a relief knowing that I’m finally finished. School has never been something that came easily to me, so I always have found myself working twice as hard to learn something. I also just started a new job in Chicago that I absolutely love! I’m working in non-profit events which is exactly what I wanted to do. So while I’ve been taking a “break”, I’ve been busy getting settled into a new job and traveling back and forth from Chicago to Decatur. May was the busiest month for us with me graduating as well as celebrating my little sister. She just graduated from high school and is going to college to become a nurse. Proud big sister!

“Blogging is Hard, Blogging Takes a Lot of Time, and Blogging Can Easily Consume You if You Aren’t Careful.”

I’ve also been on break for other reasons other than end of school madness. Before I went on break, I started to find myself comparing my blog and Instagram to other bloggers and constantly beated myself down because I didn’t feel like mine was good enough. I worried more about how my Instagram “aesthetic” looked rather than showing my authentic self. Sadly, I got caught up in the numbers game, and couldn’t even go shopping without thinking “is this something my followers would like?” While I obviously want to blog about things you all would like, it should be more about me showing you what I like. I worried SO much about getting a lot of likes on Instagram that I would genuinely get upset if a picture didn’t get as many likes as I thought it would. Not okay!

It’s hard for me to admit that I had an issue with social media, however, I’m not embarrassed or ashamed of it because I think it’s something that every blogger battles with at some point. Nate was the one who brought it to my attention, and as much as I wanted to deny it, I knew he was right. [I hate when that happens!] This break has been amazing for me to refocus and get back on track with my brand. You can still expect to see lots of my favorite outfits, beauty products, etc, but also expect much more! I’ve realized that I have so much more to share with you all rather than just my outfits. I plan to share with you all our Chicago summer adventures, recipes [I love to cook!], my DIY creations, and whatever else I come up with ;). Expect cute Instagram pictures + blog posts, but with more of my everyday life behind them. I’m no longer am worrying about the numbers, comparison, and unnecessary social media stress. I’m getting back to having fun with my blog and trying lots of new things in the process. I hope you will still continue to follow along!

Now, Lets Talk About This Sassy + Affordable Date Night Outfit

This look is for all my fellow sassy girls who love a budget friendly date night outfit. I can’t believe I was able to style a complete affordable date night look for $75! I love this look because it’s neutral, but not boring. You get me? I live for neutral pieces. That sounds so weird, but I think everyone has something they are obsessed with with fashion. You know that color, style, print, or fabric, that you are immediately drawn to in the store? That same one you’re friend always tells you “no” to when you go shopping because you have too much of it? That’s how I am with neutrals. Except neutrals go with everything, so any argument against it is automatically invalid.

I also love with look because all of these pieces can easily be worn again different ways. A pair of black ripped denim are a must. You can style them with heels, flats, boots, whatever. These neutral heels from Target have been one of my all-time favorite purchases. I wear them constantly with dresses, jeans, and skirts. Target is seriously killing it this season with their shoes, btw! I love this top because the leopard print gives it a sassy vibe that I think make it great for a date/girls night out. You could easily take this date night outfit to a cute daytime look with white pants and flats or sandals. Are you convinced yet? You probably have several of these staples already, which makes this look even easier to recreate!

Congratulations on your graduation! I can totally relate to the internal battle that comes with being a blogger. It’s hard to stop comparing and just do what you would naturally do without second guessing. I love your blog and insta so if it helps at all just keep doing you! 🙂 xo Jana | http://www.janastyleblog.com | @jana_meister

Congrats on getting a Masters and congrats to your sister for graduating high school. Now on to the outfit. I am loving this look! The top down to the shoes! You look so put together. It’s great that you’ve decided to stay true to who you are and not compare yourself to everyone else. I know it’s hard but you really have to, and we all do it, believe me! Be yourself and the rest will work itself out. Loved the post!

Love this post Rachel. We all go through those moments when we believe the grass is always greener on the other side (or is it?). I think as bloggers we all battle social media issues from time to time. My issue is that somethings I lack the creativity to keep going..so I take a break. Try to find inspiration somewhere else and then revisit when I’m ready. Glad you were able to snap out of it. Love the outfit, the top is my favorite part.

Thank you so much, Nicole! I definitely go through moments where I lack creativity as well. I never like taking breaks, but sometimes it’s so nice to take a step back and refresh.

Congratulations on your masters!!! I would love to go back to school, but not sure if it is in the cards for me. It’s also reassuring in a way to read how you compare yourself to other blogs. I just started mine in the beginning of the year and especially being plus size/curvy I feel like I have more to prove because they are so many better looking blogs, imo, done by straight size, petite woman. Kinda the same way one could say they compare their body to another. Like right now I have been wondering if I should change the look of my blog. I see more blogs with sleeker, clean looks that are always getting tons and tons of comments, where I changed mine to fit my personality more. I want you to keep doing you, there is no one like you! Also, I really am loving your top. I am not usually a fan of animal print, but I really like this!!

Thanks so much, Jamie! It was definitely not an easy road deciding to continue my education. However, I think it’s always worth it! I think you did your blog right by making it match your personality. Just because you see a lot of clean looking blogs, doesn’t mean it’s the best route! Sometimes they can look bland. I think your homepage should reflect your personality, so definitely stay true to you, babe! 🙂

Congrats on completing your Master’s! I’m glad you were able to take a break from blogging to refocus. I think at some point we all get caught up in the numbers game and feeling like our blogs aren’t as good as the next one. So you aren’t the only one! Your blog is beautiful by the way!
