As a graduate student + teacher who is constantly on the go and on campus almost 12 hours a day, I need a makeup routine that is fairly quick, easy, and will last all day! Here are my current steps to how I achieve an everyday (almost) (because no one is perfect) flawless look!
Step 1) Prep and Prime | Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Light | $36 | Sephora
This is honestly the first primer I ever tried a couple years ago when I first got into makeup, and I just never tried anything new because this one works so well for me! I have very oily skin and I love that this primer is oil-free! It really helps balance out my skin as well as gives me a perfect matte canvas to put foundation on top of.
Step 2) Foundation | Too Faced Born This Way in Vanilla | $39 | Sephora
I have tried just about every single foundation on the market (including those really pricey $50+ ones), and this one is so far my favorite. It covers my blemishes, redness, and nearly makes my skin look flawless while being super lightweight! It doesn’t settle into my pores or fine lines (which may also be because of my primer) and it lasts all day long! It looks just as good at the end of the day as to when I start my day. Highly highly recommend if you haven’t tried it.
I have the worst dark circles under my eyes most days because I don’t get much sleep! #thanksgradschool. This concealer isn’t just a great liquid, but the brush tip on it makes it so easy to apply! I just swipe a little under my eyes and press it into my skin using my ring finger. Tip: Using your finger is better than a brush for concealer because the heat from your fingers allow the product to settle easier into your skin. A brush will just have you pushing the product around on your face. Aka that is not cute.
Step 4) Set | It Cosmetics Bye Bye Pores Pressed Finishing Powder in Translucent | $29 | Ulta
+ Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit in Light to Medium | $40 | Sephora
To set my under eye concealer I use the yellow shade in the Anastasia Contour Kit. I have the literal ugliest dark circles under my eyes and the yellow powder helps correct that color to look like my normal skin tone. I also like it because it doesn’t crease under my eye, a problem I have had with a lot of other products! To set my foundation I use the It Cosmetics powder. It claims it gets rid of the look of your pores, false. I can still see some of my pores, but it does keep me matte all day which is good enough for me!
Honestly, don’t even look at that Anastasia palette, poor thing is dirty and rough looking.
Step 5) Bronze | Too Faced Soleil Matte Bronzer in Chocolate | $30 | Sephora
I love love love this bronzer! It has been my go to, forever. It goes on smooth and the color pay off is perf. I am pretty pale right now so the chocolate shade is a bit dark for me, so I have to put it on with a light hand or else I look like I have brown stripes on my face. Not cute. I put it on by drawing a 3 on my face. (forehead + under the cheekbone + jaw line).
Step 6) Blush | MAC Powder Blush in Melba | $22 | MAC
I love the MAC blushes because they are matte and they have great color payoff. Melba is my go to shade because it is a natural peachy shade that works for all skin tones. It gives my cheeks just a little pop of color! Exactly what I’m looking for for an everyday blush.
I have almost every single Urban Decay palette, and I hardly ever use them! I use my basics palette’s every single day during the week because they have the most natural shades in them. However, I do like the Urban Decay palettes the most because the color always shows up on my eyes and it stays throughout the day without creasing (with the help of the UD primer as well).
Transition: I start by putting Naked2 allover my lid and crease just to make sure all the colors blend well together. It’s the most neutral shade in the palette.
Outer Corner: Crave (very lightly)
BLEND BLEND BLEND!
Step 8) Mascara | Too Faced Better Than Sex | $23 | Sephora
This mascara is a holy grail product. I don’t think I will ever not use this mascara. It gives me length and a lot of volume! I have heard about this product being flaky, but I personally have not experienced that! It can get a little clumpy at times so I just add a few drops of contact solution to the tube to help break it apart. For everyday I just put on one coat and that’s enough!
Step 9) Lipgloss | MAC Lipglass in Angel | $16 | MAC
This lipglass is the only one I have from the MAC line and I really would like to get more! The product isn’t sticky and doesn’t taste badly. Yeah I know you aren’t supposed to eat it but it just kind of happens. Angel is the perfect light pink shade for everyday wear!
I know that this sounds like a lot of steps and like it will take a long time, but for me it really doesn’t take long at all. Sometimes I touch up with powder once during the day depending on how oily my skin that day. Enjoy!
