Happy Wednesday, friends! For the past month I’ve been testing out another hot beauty trend (surprise surprise), microneedling, and I’m really excited to share my experience with you guys today. If you’ve been around here for a while you know I’m a true beauty junkie, so it was only a matter of time before I tested this out. Just a few months ago I was putting a blade to my face and today we are poking needles in it. Basically, I’ll try just about anything. Anyways, lets get to it!
What is Microneedling?
During microneedling you use a small paint-brush-like device called a dermaroller (see below) with fine needles on it and you roll it allover your face to to create little holes, which stimulate collagen production, treat facial scars, fine lines + wrinkles, and to allow your skin to better absorb skincare products. And no, it does not hurt 🙂 Unless you press hard! Don’t do that.
How Does it Work?
First, you want to make sure your skin is clean and you’ve applied a serum, I’ve been using this one because it’s hydrating. Allow it to dry before you start microneedling. You want to slowly roll the dermaroller over small sections of your face 3-4 times, 4 times vertically, 4 times horizontally, 4 times diagonally and then move on to the next section. For extremely sensitive skin, don’t roll over the same section of skin more than 3 times.
Note: Once you’re done it’s important to sterilize your derma roller in alcohol before you put it back in its case. This is so important because you can give your skin a nasty infection if you don’t keep it clean.
Once you’ve dermarolled your entire face, don’t be alarmed at how red and itchy your face is, that’s totally normal and will go away within 20 minutes. You immediately want to apply a different serum than you previously applied. I’ve been using this one with hyaluronic acid in it. It boosts collagen production and targets fine lines, wrinkles, dark spots. It basically adds a boost to what you just did to your skin, and you’ll be amazed at how quickly this product absorbs into your skin after you microneedle.
I’m going to be honest and tell you guys that you won’t see immediate results right away. The morning after my first treatment I noticed how soft and glowy my skin was, which was great, but this device claims to do much more than that. Specifically, I wanted to see my acne scars fade over night, and that didn’t happen. I used the device once a week for an entire month and it was the third and fourth week where I started noticing results. I have a lot of scarring on the left side of my face and I started to notice the spots getting lighter and smaller. When I look at them close up it looks like new skin starting to cover them, which I don’t know if that’s a thing or not but thats honestly what it looks like! I’m just glad they are fading along with the scarring around my chin. I’m hoping after a few more treatments they will be nearly gone! I highly recommend trying micro needling if acne scarring and anti-aging is a concern for you. I don’t have a fine line problem yet, but I’m definitely preventing it from becoming a problem in the future!
Have you tried microneedling before?
