Birthday Plans and Q&A!
Im 24 today and that is weird. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not unhappy about being another year older whatsoever, it’s just so odd! I feel like I should still be a baby graduating from high school or something considering most people think I’m a teenager, but here I am adulting or at least pretending like I know what I’m doing.
Tonight we are keeping my birthday plans pretty casual. Nate is making me a steak dinner, a FILET has my name allover it when I get home from work and we will probably go for a walk..or shopping..or something like that. 😉 However, Saturday is when the party begins because Nate got me tickets to go see Florida Georgia Line + the BACKSTREET BOYS at Wrigley Field. I know, I’m crying too. I get so emotional just thinking about it. BSB got me through grade school + most of my current workouts. I told him months ago when tickets came out that I NEEDED to be there and he just didn’t understand, so I didn’t think I was going. Then one day in the car when I was whining about how I wanted to go he caved and told me he bought me tickets. 🙂 I’m the worst.
I feel awkward for making a big deal out of my 24th birthday, considering it’s not an important birthday at all, but I feel like when you’re a blogger you kind of have to. So since I am dedicating a post to it, what better way to do that than with donuts! [prob should have went the basic girl route and just bought gold number balloons, but hey I like to be ~DiFfErEnT~]
Q1: Why did you start your blog?
I was a Communication major in college so I always loved writing, so blogging has been so great for me to continue that! Also, I remember helping my friends style outfits + doing their makeup in college, it was always so fun so I thought blogging would be a fun way to continue that as well. Lastly, I love reading magazines and seeing what the new trends are. I don’t think I get too trendy on my blog, but I am definitely going to be incorporating more of that moving forward. Blogging requires a lot of shopping, y’all.
Q2: How did you get your blog name?
I knew when I started my blog that I wanted a reflection of my personality to be in my blog title. Of course, sassy, was one of the first things that came to mind and I don’t really remember how I got the rest. It kind of just came together! I will say though…that a blog name change is in the future. 🙂 but I won’t spoil those details yet!
Q3: What kind of camera do you use and who is your photographer?
I use a Canon DSLR Rebel SL1. I love it because it’s so lightweight and is one of the more affordable cameras on the market. I use Adobe Lightroom to edit all of my pictures. It’s a must! Nate takes all of my pictures unless it’s a flatly, I do those myself! He really likes taking my pictures and I always feel really comfortable with him so it works out!
Q4: How do you make money with your blog?
So I have a few different ways of making money with my blog, but this still something relatively new to me. You might see me linking my clothes with the LiketoKnow. It app, so when someone makes a purchase from that I make a commission off of it. I also sometimes get paid with brand collaborations through a brand itself or Social Fabric. Usually though, I get free product! I would say that making money definitely takes a little bit of time and experience first. If you’re new to blogging focus on getting free product first and growing your following, THEN come up with your rates.
Q5: How do you balance your blogging/personal life?
This used to be something that I really struggled with. I found myself not really using a system and I would just constantly be working on my blog that it put a strain on Nathan and I’s relationship. While Nathan is in full support of my blog, we also needed to make sure we set aside time for each other each night. I try to get my blogging done for the week in one day, usually a Sunday. We will shoot and I will blog and edit my photos that night. It’s a lot for one day, but it works out pretty well unless we are traveling during the weekend. If I am working in the evenings for some reason I try to be finished by 8PM so we can spend some time together before we go to bed. It’s hard to find a balance, but once you do, it just becomes routine!
Q6: What’s your favorite thing to do in Chicago?
People watch for suuuuuure. I know you were probably expecting me to talk about some cool activities, good restaurants, or some prime shopping, but no, it’s all about the people watching for me. In the evenings a lot we will go for walks just to check out the city and people watch. We have seen so many crazy things and it’s always so comical!
Q7: Where do you find inspiration for your blog?
So cliche, but everywhere! I find inspo when I’m shopping at a store and see something that I think I can recreate at home, reading lots of magazines, other bloggers are so great for finding inspiration especially if its someone with a similar aesthetic, and then a lot of times I randomly think of ideas and then I save them on a note in my phone so I don’t forget.
Q8: What’s one thing your followers might not know about you?
Probably that I used to be a pageant girl. It was a very fun and enlightening time in my life where I learned so much about myself and really grew into a confident young woman, but it’s just not a part of my life anymore so I don’t really talk about it! I’m not at all ashamed of it, it’s just not relevant to my life now and I don’t want to come across as that girl who can’t leave her “glory days” behind. Maybe I will do a fun throwback post later on where you guys can see a little bit of me pre-blogger.
Hope you guys enjoyed this Q&A! Let me know if there are anymore questions you’d like me to answer, this was so fun!
Hopefully I can give you guys an update next week on my BSB concert. Not sure if my heart will be able to take it. 😉
