Hey friends! I know I have only been absent for a month it feels like it’s been like a year since I have written a blog post! I wanted to give everyone an update on why I have been absent because I don’t want anyone to think I’m quitting my blog or just dropping off the face of the earth with no explanation. I might not be posting as frequently for the next few months, but I’m not leaving!!!
So here’s the news. We are moving! ….back to Decatur! In a month! Two years ago Nathan was offered a job promotion with his company here in the city, and while I didn’t want to leave my hometown I couldn’t let him pass up the great opportunity to advance his career. Now, his company is graciously letting him go back to Decatur and it’s the most bittersweet feeling! We have grown to love the city and our lives here and there is so much we will miss, but there is nothing greater than being near your family and that is the most important thing to us.
We’ve have been asked by so many people “why on earth would you want to come back to Decatur, IL?!” That question makes me sad because there are so many negative people out there who just hate Decatur, and anytime this comes up in conversation lately, I tell people if you hate Decatur so much try out life in another city or be apart of making Decatur better. Get involved! Truth is, I love Decatur and moving to Chicago has reaffirmed that. Decatur is a great place to raise a family, and I can’t wait to do that there! The cost of living is drastically lower than Chicago and it’s a much simpler way of life. Chicago is competitive. I mean, I’m not cut out for the suburban mom life. That brings me to the second question we get asked a lot, “Won’t you be SO bored when you move back?” No, we won’t! We like to spend most of our time with our families, and to be honest, I think there is plenty to do in Decatur. You just have to look! Besides, Chicago is a quick 2 hour train ride away, so I know we will be able to come back and visit a lot.
We have already bought a house in a really cute little neighborhood and I can’t wait to get the keys and start renovating! We have plans to rip up carpet, take down popcorn ceilings, put up a fence, and so much more. Hence why I am going to be less active than normal. I’m going to be busy! Which brings me to the last comment I keep getting from people “Hope you can find a job” Give me a break! I just accepted a position at a local non-profit that I am extremely excited about, and yes, it’s in my marketing/PR field so yeah, there are jobs out there. I saw plenty of openings at a lot of great oganizations when I was applying! Like I said before, you just have to look.
Anyways, that’s it! We can’t wait to be back in our hometown. Chicago, you’ll be missed!
