I try to not get excited when I try a new “brightening” product because most of the time…they disappoint me. So, I haven’t tried any in quite a while because I felt like I was just throwing money away, and brightening products tend to be very expensive. However, I received the new Tatcha Voilet-C Brightening Serum and Tatcha’s Essence Water complimentary through Influenster at the beginning of December, so I’ve had almost 2 months to test them out and felt it was worth a review! The serum just launched on Sephora.com at the beginning of January so it’s a very new product.

TATCHA The Essence Plumping Skin Softener
I received TATCHA The Essence to be used prior to the serum. The Essence is supposed is good for:
- Anti-aging
- Smoothing and Resurfacing
- Plumping Hydration
- Maximizing performance of other skincare
TATCHA Violet-C Brightening Serum 20% Vitamin C + 10% AHA
Once The Essence is dried, you can apply the serum. It has 20% Vitamin C and 10% AHA. AHA’s are acids that remove debris and Vitamin C promotes cell turnover and reduces UV damage to brighten your skin over time. Here is what the serum is good for:
- Dullness and Uneven texture
- Fine Lines and Wrinkles
- Dark Spots
- Brightening

My Thoughts
I honestly could not be more pleased with these products. I have had a very hard time find a good brightening product that would actually work on my acne scars, but I started noticed results with this one after just 3 weeks. Try not to get discouraged if you don’t see results right away! These products do take time. Since I have only used The Essence and Voilet-C Brightening Serum together, I would have to recommend that you get both if you decide to purchase these. Also, I only used these products at night! I washed my face with my cleanser then followed with The Essence and then the serum.
The Essence Review:
I enjoyed The Essence because it made my skin feel smooth and even once I applied it. Kind of reminded me of a primer! I will say though that I didn’t get much hydration from it at all, in fact it actually made my skin feel dry.
Voilet-C Brightening Serum Review:
The serum is really what made a difference in my skin. I read on another blog that when you apply serum you are supposed to press it into your skin. I really have no clue if that makes a difference or not, but it made sense to me! I applied the serum by pressing 1 1/2 pumps into my skin and letting it dry. I didn’t notice any immediate results, but when I would wake up in the morning everyday my skin was always looked bright and refreshed. It wasn’t until a few weeks later that I started noticing my dark spots fading.
With all of that being said though, I still have some noticeable dark spots. They are not completely gone, but I would say the scarring I had around my chin has faded about 80% and the scarring on the side of one of my cheeks has faded about 50%. Side note: The scarring on my cheek is a bit deeper than the scarring around my chin!
I hope you guys enjoyed this post and that this helps any of you who might be battling acne scarring with me. I know these products are not cheap that’s why I like to do these reviews so I can help you guys buy products that really do work and save ur money from the ones that don’t!
